At our A-level school in Barcelona, your child will learn in cutting-edge facilities on a unique green campus, just minutes from the city centre and Gavà beach. The subject-based nature of A Levels empowers students to shape their education around their strengths, passions, and aspirations. Designed for learners who want to focus intensively on their preferred disciplines, the programme provides the academic foundation, independent study skills, and confidence essential for success at university and in future careers.

Benefits of Studying A Levels

The Pearson Edexcel Advanced Levels programme stands among the world’s most distinguished pre-university pathways, providing a strong academic foundation and essential real-life skills to excel in higher education and beyond.

A Levels allow students to specialise in subjects they are truly passionate about. By focusing on just three or four subjects aligned with their ambitions, learners explore their interests in greater depth than in broader programmes, building a solid foundation for their prospective degree courses and career paths. Because students concentrate on fewer subjects, they can dedicate more time to mastering them, rather than dividing their energies across a wider range. This focused approach leads to deeper understanding and stronger academic results.

Our A-Level Curriculum in Barcelona

Our A-level programme in Barcelona is offered through the internationally respected Pearson Edexcel examination board, leading to qualifications recognised and valued by universities worldwide. The curriculum follows a two-year structure: students begin with AS-Levels in Year 12, building a solid foundation in their chosen subjects, and progress to the A2 stage in Year 13, where they deepen knowledge, refine analytical skills, and work towards three to four A-level examinations.

All subjects are taught in English, except language courses, which are delivered by native speakers. By studying only three or four subjects aligned with their strengths and aspirations, students gain the focus needed to master their subjects in preparation for university.

A-Level Subjects

Our A-level curriculum in Barcelona offers a carefully curated range of subjects for students pursuing business or arts-related pathways. Current offerings include Business Studies, Drama, Psychology, Art & Design, French, Music, and Spanish, providing a strong foundation for further specialisation and university preparation.

Our Business Studies A-level pathway balances theory with real-world applications, while Arts subjects allow students to develop their creative skills in professional-standard facilities.

Our language A Levels reflect the international character of our school and the growing importance of multilingual skills in today's global economy. Taught by native speakers, they develop both linguistic ability and cultural understanding, enhancing university applications and career prospects.

Expanding Subject Choices
From September 2026, we will broaden our A-level subject range to include Mathematics, English, Geography, Russian, and IT, gradually expanding our options to offer a full range by 2028. This phased approach ensures high-quality teaching and support while giving students increasing flexibility in their studies.

Choosing A-Level Subject Options
At the heart of our approach is specialist teaching and personalised support, alongside dedicated study periods that foster independent learning, self-discipline, and time management. Experienced academic counsellors guide students in selecting subject combinations that support university ambitions and future careers globally.

How are A-Levels assessed

A-Level Assessment & Grades

Pearson Edexcel A Levels have a rigorous assessment structure designed to thoroughly prepare students for their final examinations. Students complete a combination of ongoing coursework and comprehensive final exams, ensuring they develop both knowledge and the skills needed to succeed. The grading system ranges from A* to E, with A* as the highest grade, giving universities a clear indication of each student’s performance.

Students receive regular feedback through internal evaluations, mock exams, and coursework assignments. This continuous assessment helps them identify their strengths, address areas for improvement, and build effective examination techniques. Our teachers work closely with each learner to ensure they understand assessment requirements and develop strong study strategies.

Examination preparation includes focused revision sessions, practice papers, and one-to-one guidance, equipping students to approach their final exams with confidence.

Learn More About Advanced Levels

All A-level subjects are taught by specialist educators who bring a wealth of academic knowledge and practical expertise to the classroom. A-level staff are highly qualified and experienced in preparing students for all Pearson Edexcel A-level assessments, ensuring thorough readiness for exams and coursework. They create a learning environment where students develop critical thinking, independent study skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for their subjects.

Our A-level educators provide ongoing support, helping students analyse their progress, interpret predicted and actual grades, and understand how these relate to university entry requirements. They also assist with university applications, subject choices, and career planning, enabling students to make informed decisions about their future.

By combining expert instruction, careful assessment, and personalised mentorship, our A-level educators empower students to achieve excellent results and approach their academic and professional goals with confidence and ambition.

A Levels offer clear benefits over other academic routes, especially for students who shine in specific areas and have defined subject preferences and university aspirations. Unlike broader programmes like the IB, A Levels allow students to focus deeply on three or four subjects, providing greater depth of study and specialisation that directly supports their intended university courses.

Both A Levels and the IB Diploma lead to qualifications accepted by universities in Spain and worldwide. A key difference between these two Sixth Form pathways is that A Levels are studied as individual subjects rather than as part of a combined diploma, and students can select subjects in any combination that suits them. Each A Level is a standalone qualification, so if a student does not pass one subject, they still receive the qualifications for the others they complete.

Unlike the IB Diploma, A-level students are not required to complete core components such as CAS. However, they still have full access to BCG’s sports, creative arts, and enrichment programmes, ensuring a well-rounded education alongside their focused academic studies.

Moving from IGCSE in Year 11 to A Levels in Year 12 is a shift from studying a broad range of subjects to focusing in depth on just a few. At our school, both programmes are offered through Pearson Edexcel, giving students the opportunity to earn internationally recognised Pearson qualifications. While IGCSE students explore many areas, A-level students concentrate on three or four subjects, diving deeper into the material. This requires more independent study and analytical thinking, as students are expected to tackle complex concepts and develop a strong understanding of their chosen fields, often going beyond the syllabus through extra reading or research.

A-level study also puts a bigger focus on problem-solving and critical thinking—skills that are crucial for success at university. Over time, students learn to work independently, research effectively, and present their ideas clearly and logically, building a strong foundation for both academic and professional growth.
