Hello everyone, I am Alba Rosas, the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the College. I have been given the opportunity to talk with you about just what my role entails and what we do in the Safeguarding department. First let me explain what Safeguarding means:
Safeguarding is a term used in the United Kingdom to denote measures to protect the health, well-being and human rights of children, young people and vulnerable adults to live free from abuse, harm and neglect.

It is my part of my role as DSL, working with Jorge Sales, the deputy DSL, Mr Mower, the Principal, and Ester Pou, directora técnica, to ensure all staff have induction training covering child protection, an understanding and awareness of safeguarding issues including the signs of abuse and neglect. Over the last two weeks all the staff, teaching and non-teaching, have received this training and as a team we feel well-prepared to deal confidently with any issues that may arise. I co-ordinate any actions that may be required when an issue is referred to the safeguarding department.

The main principles by which we at BCG work are :
·         Prevention - it is better recognise a potential issue and to take action before harm occurs
·         Proportionality – the least intrusive response appropriate to the risk presented
·         Protection- support and representation for those in need
·         Partnership – we must all work together as a school community in preventing, detecting and addressing any potential abuse or neglect.

The health and safety of the students is of paramount importance for all of us in our community of BCG and we embed this in our policies and daily practices.

If you would like to learn more about my role and what we do in the Safeguarding department, do, please, make an appointment so we can chat over a coffee and share thoughts.
