Drama & Dance

"Tell me and I will forget.
Show me and I will remember.
Involve me and I will understand."

BCG promotes performance in a wide range of contexts, both inside and outside of the classroom: these include full-scale musicals, plays, class productions, assemblies, instrumental recitals, choir and orchestra concerts, monologue competitions and poetry recitals.

Classroom Drama

Drama helps develop confidence, empathy and communication skills among many others. Throughout the school it is incorporated into a variety of subjects such as English, History, and PSHE. From September 2020, Primary and Key Stage 3 & 4 classes will put on an annual play as part of the English Literature and Language curriculum.

We will also be introducing half-termly monologue and duologue competitions and poetry recitals in the secondary school.

There are also opportunities for pupils to take LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) examinations in Acting and Public Speaking, either individually or in groups.

We also offer a GCSE in Drama - a performance-based syllabus that comprises acting, directing, devising and reviewing live theatre.

Junior Musical Theatre

In 2019-2020, our Junior Musical Theatre club (Years 2 – 6) rehearsed songs, scenes, and dances from famous musicals such as Annie, The Lion King, Matilda, The Little Mermaid, High School Musical, and more. They performed regularly to parents and friends in evening recitals. Watch this space for the next Junior Musical Theatre production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as soon as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Auditions coming soon...

Senior Musical Theater

Our dedicated Secondary actors meet weekly to rehearse in preparation for a summer musical theatre production at a local theatre. In 2019-2020 our young actors, singers and dancers worked towards a production of High School Musical, learning and memorising lines, lyrics, harmonies, staging, acting, and complicated choreographies, which is not only hard work, but a lot of fun too! Calling all actors, dancers and singers - watch this space for auditions for our next Senior musical production of Annie, as soon as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted!

Events

The best inspiration comes from watching professionals at work. BCG has hosted talks, workshops and mini plays from a local theatre company and local actors. Our pupils also have the opportunity to attend theatre productions, organised as school trips, and are encouraged to support our musical theatre productions in the summer term. From September 2020 we will be introducing half-termly monologue and duologue competitions and poetry recitals in the secondary school, as well as class productions in both Primary and Secondary.

Extra and Co-curricular clubs

In addition to two successful Musical Theatre clubs, we offer after-school LAMDA acting as well as dance classes in a variety of genres including hip hop, contemporary ballet, and modern.
