It is both an honour and privilege to be Head of Primary at The British College of Gavà at this time of change, challenge and development. For us, the children and their learning are at the heart of everything we do.

We are educating future doctors, artists, engineers and archaeologists; moulding minds to reach heights and perform tasks that are not even invented yet.

As educators there is no greater privilege than watching children grows and develop not only in their learning but also in their alibies to communicate, play and interact with others. We aim to help the children ‘Be the best they can be’, and this journey is one we take with the combined efforts of parents, teachers and the children themselves.

Our primary team is divided into two areas; EYFS and primary.

Our EYFS team follow the four principles, which underpin the care, development and learning of young children;

  1. Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
  2. Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
  3. Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers; and
  4. Children embrace learning and development in different ways and at different rates.

These principles run through each part of the child’s development towards the Early Learning Goals and we are continuing to change and develop our teaching and outside area to enable each child to reach the key developmental stages with confidence, positivity and enthusiasm.

In Primary (Years 1 to Year 6) we follow the English National Curriculum. It focuses on children becoming lifelong learners. Learners who question, investigate, immerse themselves in the skills they are learning so they have a deeper understanding of how and when to use them...for the rest of their lives.

In primary, we teach a broad and balanced curriculum. It covers all the key subjects that allow for the development of all children and their varying abilities and interests. These subjects are English, maths, science, history, geography, computing, art, music, PE and PSHE. We also teach the children Catalan and Spanish which is in line with regional and national expectations. Our CAS Programme (Creativity, Activity and Service), which runs after school, allows the children to engage in a variety of sports, art, robotics and language.

As an expanding school, we remain committed to small class sizes (maximum 25 children), plenty of outdoor space for learning, dedicated teachers and a team spirit that will help inspire, fulfil and challenge your child.

We look forward to you joining our family.
